Hey guys, a pink layer is spreading on my biofilters, protein skimmer, main pump, everywhere. It’s on the walls of the sump too.

The sump never gets light, unless I am working on it. I only turn on a flashlight for 15 minutes max. So would it be valid to assume it isn’t an algae?

Im not sure it made its way up to the main tank (I can assume it did, as I do see a small bit of the same pink on some rocks)..

I attached pictures. What is it? How do I deal with something like this? TIA!

***** Things I’ve recently done *****

1. I’ve been putting my hands inside the display and sump area quite often to re-scape the rocks and adjust the skimmer.

2. I like to feed my fish alot. They finish all the feedings with very little ending up in the filter sock.

3. Nitrite is higher than normal so I added microbacter nitrifying bacteria.

4. Tank temp 78F / Salinity 1.023

5. Recently added more biosphere balls into the sump, rinsed with my home rodi filter system.

6. The sump doesnt really get any fast / high flow.

7. Ive been dosing Polyplab Medic to get control of some ich infestation

It may be something bacterial.

It will probably go away on its own when it has consumed whatever nutrient is feeding it.
