Pipefish Advice

Hello all,

I am thinking of getting a yellow multibanded pipefish. I understand they're difficult and I am building a setup specifically for it. What is your advice for this fish?What tank size should I go with? What do you think is the best way to get it on frozen food?

Best advice is to do as many websearches as you can on their care. And check out the pipefish/seahorse forum. Many of your questions should be answered by a pretty thorough google search.

For frozen food, my money would be on following many of the old school tricks: some form of live food (typically live adult brine shrimp), then mix in the frozen equivalent (frozen adult brine shrimp), and once they're taking 100% frozen, switch in a more nutritious variant (frozen mysis).

So had a pipefish for quite some time that loved live brine and ROE..

I think best thing to do is try and create a station where they become trained and accustomed to where they receive their feeding. @Paul B created an awesome contraption to help with this exact thing! Multi banded pipefish are gorgeous!

The yellow banded are tough. I have a Janss and Blueline at 6+ years. A pair of bluelines at 3 years. And about half a dozen dragon faced - Some paired up for years and years. But the banded and the ghost pipefish are really tough. I would recommend starting with a Dragon Faced and get some success and confidence before attempting something that regardless of experience and system maturity has a really slow success rate.
