Pipefish. Worth it?

Pipefish. Are they easy to care for or worth it? Thank you!

depends on where you get them. I believe ora has them (used to order them from my petco days) and they always came eating. If you see them in store check to see if they are eating first. Otherwise care is fairly similar to seahorses.

My LFS has one and they've had it for awhile, so I assume it's eating just fine. What do they eat though? Copepods right?

I fed them mysis shrimp without issue at my store. Otherwise if it only eats live you'll need to do live brineshrimp or copepods

although depending on the size of the tank and the stocking sometimes they will replenish themselves so you don't have to have a separate container, especially with a refugium on the tank

Okay! Thank you! Yeah, atm I'm just trying to decide what I want to add. An anemone or a pipefish, so I wanted to see if they were worth it or not

I think they are worth it. One they look cool but you also have a fish that most people don't have so you get some bragging rights lol

Keep in mind that they have no stomachs, which means they can't store food and need to eat constantly. If you have lots of pods, you can get away with feeding them once a day with live brine shrimp nauplii or frozen mysis.

I have alot of wrasses that eat copepods so I replenish them from here.

Keep in mind that they have no stomachs, which means they can't store food and need to eat constantly. If you have lots of pods, you can get away with feeding them once a day with live brine shrimp nauplii or frozen mysis.

Yeah. I know I have a TON that keep replenishing themselves on my glass, and I know my other fish don't eat them. I feel my other fish frozen mysis. I use a syringe for them, would I direct feed the pipefish?

And also, I've had my tank for 2 months, think my tank is ready or should I wait longer? Trying to plan out for it

It would probably go better if you waited a while longer.

On a new tank I wouldn’t add anemone or pipefish. Just my two cents

Your question can't be answered because there are many types of pipefish and they all have different care requirements.
But virtually all of them will not live long in a 2 month old tank.

This was my thought as well.
@leilani908 I noticed you are looking at either pipefish or a anemone.
Both of these really need to be added in mature tanks.
Just some things need to be waited on and these are 2 of them.
There are so many others that will add color and be cool.
So keep looking and have a little patience.

You said the LFS had it for a long time? If they have it eating frozen, it doesn’t really matter how old your tank is. You’ll just need to feed it at least twice a day, preferably more
