Pistol Shrimp escape

Anyone have experience with a pistol shrimp ending up in an overflow? I just unexpectedly found mine in my overflow thankfully still alive. Took about an hour to get him finally out. I thought they stay on the bottom of the tank?

Yes I have seen them out and about.

Yeah, I new to reefing, and I have one that does the same thing. Every night he goes into the overflow. I have a lid on it, so I'm thinking he's going through the weir. What I'm trying now is I took a long zip tie, and cut the end of it, and used the long flat part to weave it through the slots to cut down on the size. We'll see if that works. It can't be good for him to be flushed out of the overflow down into the sock every day.
