I am in the process of trapping out crabs and such from my lr before it goes into the display tank.

I have not seen a pistol shrimp, but every once in a while I hear a popping noise from the bin area that the lr is curing in. I didn't really notice it at first, but now I am wondering if that could possibly be a pistol shrimp. From what I have read if you have one, you "know". How often do the shrim make that noise?

They make that noise couple times a day. Usually multiple pops in a row. I own one and he pops all the time. There is something behind this one rock that he pops all day long. Not sure what it is but he hates it.

yep... varies greatly but mine will usually start popping if I make any similars sounds lol... i.e. when the metal forceps bump against the glass

I have only noticed it recently and have had the rock for about 2 months. Idk, maybe he is just now getting comfortable. I won't rule it out. Are all pistol shrimp reef safe? Just the mantis that are not? Mantis make a similar noise, correct?
