Woke up to another frag tipped over on the sand bed. Picked it up and realized my pitho was under it lol. No idea why but he likes to bury himself under my frags. No harm done and most of these are new frags I’m moving off the sand bed anyway.

I notice they bury themselves under rock and corals. I rarely see mine buried in just open sand

You guys still loving your Pithos crabs!?!?

Im contemplating adding them to my clean up crew. No one noticed them munching on any coral!?

Mine stood in the middle of my open brain trying to catch food floating by tonight lol. He’s funny. He’s also currently wearing GHA as a tiara. I’ve seen him squeeze the tentacles on my Duncan before but he didn’t damage it and the Duncan didn’t care.

I have actually been having a green hair algae problem lately. I might want to consider ordering one of these. Also maybe some dwarf ceriths and a few nassarius snails.

I don't know how good pithos are at cleaning to be honest. They like to cultivate algae they can grow on their heads from what I have observed. That being said the males are infinitely entertaining and very goofy and fun to watch. Also they have such tiny little claws they probably wouldn't hurt anything even if they wanted to.

I’m not sure mine is making a big dent either, though I was advised to get 2 and didn’t. I do see him cleaning stuff up, it’s just a slow process.

I have a couple of the males. Had them for a few months now. I can’t say they are all that great at algae removal really. They are fun to have in the tank for sure. Very comical. I never know where one of them will turn up. I think he’s dead half the time. The other has posted up under my Xenia island and does a good job keeping the little area fairly clean.

I love mine... It must be a male as it has very small claws. It stays at the front of my tank and buries itself. It comes out when I feed each night. I have coarse sand and small rubble in my tank. I think that makes him quite comfortable. He buries himself under it... sometimes under a frag as others have stated. It's fun to watch. An interesting addition for sure.

I've never seen it bother a coral, only bury itself under a plug or move it in the process.

I'm not sure it cleans algea, but I don't have much algae to test... that's all in the Fuge with enough on the glass for the snails. ;-)

Yep. One of my favs. They have gotten less shy and I see them out in the evening a lot. They do eat some algae but I wouldn’t rely on them to clear out a bunch of gha. They graze nicely and don’t bother anyone. You never know where they will pop up lol.
