I never kept them with clams (or clams at all tbh).

If the clam is small enough maybe cover it with a deli cup and make a ton of holes for water flow. Pithos are surprisingly big in person so you can make some larger holes for the water flow.

I just bought 2 Pitho crabs for my Nano tank (I have a 125g) if they need to be moved....John from reefcleaners told me they would get rid of the severely invasive caulerpa which is springing out of everything, my zoas, my mushrooms, my rock and its not the pretty fan caulerpa! no matter how much I pick it just returns with a vengeance. He said that the Pithos will not harm any coral amd eat the caulerpa....is this true? It's a small tank filled with corals of all kinds but being overrun by this caulerpa...it even grows out of my gap! I have had trouble with Emeralds eating my corals so It was recommended to me that I try a couple Pitho crabs. Anyone else have success with them eating the macro and not the coral? I don't want to sacrifice a single zoa. Thanks guys!

They’re good with coral. I had emeralds eat zoas so I moved to these guys. Bigger than emeralds but more coral friendly and fun to watch. About the same level of eating algae. Mine are always trying to get to the nori sheets if they can lol

I’ve never had a decorator crab. The pitho is different but related I think. Yes, he just knocked over my duncan but didn’t damage it. I’ve only had him a few days so not sure if it’ll be a problem. He does climb up my rocks.
I just got 2 phitos a few days ago. One just sits watching me and when I get close I swear he waves to me lol. The other I haven't seen for almost 2 days. Funny how same things are so different. I didn't know they "decorate" themselves. I went to get a seahorse and fell in love with the little crab. 1st crab I ever owned
