I'm switching over from this 92 gallon bownfront

to a 310 gallon planet aquarium tank. Been waiting for its for a while!

So while waiting for the tank to get here i went ahead and made a mock tank to aquascape my rocks.

After the rockscape was done it was preety push the waiting game waiting on the tank to come. And also doing some research on how I wanted things to go. Did alot of research on lighting and plumbing and the sort. I dont have pictures yet of light but will be posting up later i went with 3 radion gen 5 pro and 8 4 ft t5 dimmable bulbs.

Plumbing was the harder thing to figure out since I made the mistake and forgot to ask planet aquarium to increase the drill hole size cause i found out after the fact that the cor 20's hav event head pressure using 1.25 plumbing. But neptune. only has 1/2 inch 1 inch and 2 inch flow sensors. I thought they had 3/4 inch. So unfourtunutly for me after a phone call to brs I was told that any unfit to a 1 or 2 inch or down to the half inch won't read and or work correctly.. so i bought pipe accordingly.

As the date is approaching the tank to get to my house. We have some hiccups. The top won't fit on the crate with the tank and stand. So had to get it put on a new pallet. Then I waited for confirmation which never came So didnt have friends ready to help then bam I find out tank is gonna here to my house at 4 o'clock that day. Well since I had no friends I have to find some muscle instead

Tanks here !!!!!
I dont have pictures right now on the process of bringing in to the house in can post those later but here are the pictures after bringing it into the house with a little smoke pork BBQ and some beers

So now all the fun/stress starts to begin! Electrical is coming later but I kinda started on plumbing right now. And this is where I've gotten so far. I dont know whether I want the sump on right or left ... does it even matter ? Is it preference ? I mean it seems to work for the way i need the plumbing orelse there are gonna be alot more runs in there !

Right now I running 2 cor 20 one routed in 3/4 directly to on return and the second is routed in 1.25 to a manifold here it goes down to a lifeguard aquatics pro max 90w uv then meets back up with itself on the other side to a return as you can see jn the picture. This set up works out preety well. BUt was told that the drains may actually be too short. So im really open to all types of suggestions . The other thing I'm worried about as well. Is if the wiring is gonna make it to the other side. As well. Now this is just a mock up nothing is glued in. So I can completly change it all around i guess I gotta get all my electrical in order to verify everything reaches.

So this is where I left off I had to go to work so when I get back ill keep on trucking at it. Like I said open to all the help I can get. Never really had any luck with my 92 gallon. So I need to make sure this 310 goes right.

To be continued!

So after mocking everything up. I finally glued everything together. Using purple piping from BRS. Have the sump on the left side and put the electronics cabinet on the right. As you can see in the pictures I tired to mock up the electronics cabinet finally figured out how I wanted it. And started to run the wires. The only things that didn't reach all the way were the two wave pumps from the left of the tank to the right of the cabinet. Once I got all that sorted out. Moved on to cycling. It took two weeks to cycle and started setting up the lights so I can put fish in.

Eventually got to the ugly stage. Used higher flow and less lights to get rid of that. Still having some left over in the sand. Then eventually I went on to build my mixing station. I had a big debate with this since I live in florida and its easy to get natural sea water down here but. I decided after the initial natural sea water after that I would decide to use tropic marine pro salt. I'm doing an automatic water change 3.5 gallons a day. Took me about 2 to 3 full days to set up the automatic mixing station from scratch. Once that was done it was time to sit back and relax and let the tank keep on doing its thing.

Awsome build how are those klirs working out
I mean they are ok. They don't fit 100% correct so its a pain to remove them to change out the filter but other then that I had one 2 issues since I had them. So im learning. First issues was one of the filter rollers got stuck and wasn't rolling. I sorted that out then next one one of the filters started tearing so I had to fix that. But learning from the issues I'm learning how I need to set it up. But the good thing is I don't have to change out the filter socks ever 2 to 3 days. A buddy of mine has the same filters and has been trying something to make the filter roller last longer. Buy putting the sensor on a magnet and raising the sensor higher leaves the filter in place for longer filtering longer and making the paper last longer. But he has a way higher bioload then I do. But it saves from having to change and clean every 2 days =)

I got a 300 gallon coming and I’m so undecided about my mechanical filtration ... I’m going to build the sump around what I need but every auto filter floss roller I’m looking into has it flaws ... the kilr seems the most ideal but so many reviews are mentioning the issues you are having . I’ll touch base with you again hopefully u can work out any flaws

Well like I said slight learning experience to figure out. I could have carved out the sump prior to putting water in. And the issue with the roller being jammed was solved by klir already. They were using the single 50 yard fleece but it seemed as tho it was too heavy for the system so now they sell the 25 yard fleece which hasn't jammed on me. I think I installed it wrong one time which csuse the rip. But other then that. Now I have a method to put it in and take it out of the sump. And havnt has issues since. The only thing I'm gonna do is what my buddy did and take the eye sensor and raise it slightly so that it can filter out slightly more before refreshing its self but overall I love them. I have both motors running to one sensor. So both of them rotate at the same time. The only thing that I do wish tho, Is that they had high micron fleece. That would be my only complaint. Other then that. I can't really complain. =)

Would you buy a mega matrix again? I'm debating on that from planet or a tank from Miracles the mega matrix is a bit more basic however it's considerably cheeper so I'm leaning towards it. Thanks for your advice!

Um yes I would get it again. I dont have any issues with it. Especially where I have it the front glass is really the only glass I wanted sapphire. Its kinda put into a recessed area with walls on each side. Its well put together. The only gripes I have with it. Is to know what pumps ur gonna use with the tank before u order it. Since I'm using the cor 20 and the best head pressure with the cor 20 is 2000gph but it at 1.25 inch piping. And the holes for the tank are cut for .75 inch holes. So I could have ordered it with bigger drilled out holes. And then the other gripe is the bracing along the top . There are 2 glass braces that splits the tank into 3rds. So there are 3 openings On top and with the glass braces it kind of blocks out light slightly. But honestly with 300+ gallons I rather have the braces, then worry about light. But honestly I have 3 xr30 gen 5 and I get preety good light coverage and I have some t5s to fill the rest. Overall I'm preety happy. One thing I did do tho which was a saving grace to me was order the stand as 42 inches high. The standard height I wouldnt have been able to half the things I wanted to do inside the stand. Plus it make everything look more even.
