I'd say I got a pretty good deal! Funny thing is, we get a lot of very similar corals and they usually go for around $75 or a little less. Here we call them doughnut corals or Meat Corals.

Here are a few examples and their prices...1000 is about $30 roughly so 1800 is around $54. What do you think of the one labeled as a Lobo btw? Do you think it really is a Lobo?

This looks like a symphyllia to me.

But let me edit: symphyillias were added back to lobophyllia family. Yes, its a lobo.

I want one like that :*(

While it may technically be a Lobo, corals are priced because of their perceived rarity but also simply due to unusual colors. Therefore even if it's a regular Lobo, that particular piece should be more than 550 baht...
I'd imagine in America or Europe it would easily sell for hundreds.

I've been looking at these for awhile and had one secured for $500 but I couldn't bring myself to spend the money on the vanity piece. I'm glad others can get them, but I'm more on board for prices like @livinlifeinBKK is looking at. Very nice score and not insane prices for something collected out of the ocean.

That's one thing I love about the shops here. Since a lot of the corals (both SPS and LPS) are wild collected you never know what may pop up for sale. It's so unpredictable! Also, imo there's just something special about having so many unique pieces to choose from and once one is gone, it's gone. I prefer this to shops elsewhere where you're presented with 25 identical tiny frags all in nice even rows. Until you get to the corals that can't be aquacultured. (I'm leaving price out of the equation.)

Yuh, we get frags for the price of a whole coral. It's our fault.

Nothing justifies a $500 price tag aside from the fact that someone will pay it. What I mean is that it's not the cost of transportation, payment of the divers, license payments, or anything like that which makes it impossible to sell for less than that.

Here is the big BUT....so an acantho is around 2000 baht what equals 57$. The average Thai montly income is 39000 baht and that's 1130$. That's 13560 a year. The average Us Income is 53490, so 4 times more. Same in Australia. Here it is 69888 au$ a year. Now those coral prices fall into order a bit more too. I love the acantho too but the prices scare me...
