It looks see through .. so I'd say it's a molt .. and yes on molts you will get color as well .. !
Oh, what a relief! We rarely see this guy, and he's in my son's cube. I about panicked when I saw this because my son would be devastated when he came home from school! Seeing a molt means he's alive and growing. I just started qt on a Randall's goby, so once he's in with the shrimp hopefully we'll see more of him.

I had my cleaner shrimp die few weeks ago .. I was gutted .. he was my first inhabitant I'd ever bought .. but it was very clear to see that it wasn't a molt !

That split in the middle is usually where they escape their molt so I would join the bandwagon saying it's a molt. They are worth pulling out and checking sometimes though, I have found a lot of animals that molt can have trouble escaping them sometimes. Many shrimp, crabs and even tarantulas have died while molting from either being unable to break free or being unable to do it in time before a predator find them in a soft and vulnerable state.

That's interesting. This is the only inhabitant in the tank. Here's another picture after I pulled it out.

Good news and bad. The good news is he is alive! I looked into the tank today and in the same place I saw the exoskeleton yesterday was the pistol shrimp. At first I thought it was the rest of his molt, but when I went to pick it up it moved! Freaked me out!

The bad news is both his claws are missing Is this common? Will he be ok?

The claws will grow back but it's going to take several molts to do so. He should be fine without them
