Please help a newbie

i have a small fluval evo 13.5 reef tank i started cycle 1 month ago caribsea rock and live sand ammonia has gone but nitrite through roof not changed since start done a 20 and 50% water change since start i used dr timms 1st day set up not had light on added ammonia to try help but still dark red in 3 differant test kits even in aquatic shop ph 7.7 how do i get nitrite to 0 please help

nitrite is not important in saltwater hobby. The ammonia should be zero and you should see some nitrates on the test, these are the 2 things that matter. Forget about the nitrite. ph is really not important at this stage no need to test it IMO.

One month should be long enough to complete a cycle. What is the ammonia and the nitrate level?

0 to 0.2 ammonia nitrite on test dark red which is highest on chart so prob 10 i using salifert test and api both show same and aquatics said thru roof could it be the water i buy maidenhead aquatis in ashtead

Ya I've also heard that but its confusing to me.

I've seen "disregard nitrite" and "nitrite skews the nitrate reading" in the same thread. So if nitrite skews nitrate then its important to test, right? but at the same time "no need to test", so IDK

It also means waiting for both ammonia and nitrite to hit zero on a cycle which is not very convenient. Not meaning to argue - respect only - just honestly confused by what seems conflicting info to me
