The new tank I am picking up has these white and black looking pipe things. I am not sure what it is. Can someone please help? Let me know if they are good or bad also.

I think they move a little his power head isn't the best. I am tearing down the tank and moving it to my place tomorrow morning. I thought they might be some kind of sponge but not sure. The ones hidden in the rock work are solid white. Also if you zoom in there is all kinds of white little legs it looks like on the rock work that I am not sure what they are also

It's just a sponge of some sort. (Carteriospongia vermifera?) I have a bunch of these in my tank as well. The ones behind the rockwork that aren't getting any light tend to be white.
No worries.

Thank you. Also you can see on the rocks all the little star fish legs. There are hundreds and hundreds of these little things. Is there something that will eat them? I think there is a point where there is to many stars.

I am also inclined to think sponge, just a strange formation that would not be viable had the rock not been moved.

Thank you. I pretty much got rid of most of it when I broken down the tank to move. Any ideas on what to do with all those d*** starfish?

Then when I went to reset up the tank I noticed that one of the plastic nuts on the bulk head was broken and no one in Reno carries bulk heads. So all the coral ended up in my other tank along with 8" Naso Tang (Blonde?) 6-7" Hippo Tang, 5" long nose copper butterfly.
Here are some pics

Sponges, they can grow in big clusters behind rock.
Get a Angelfish of some kind and he/she will clean it up for you.
The legs you see are small brittle stars, wrasses will feast on these.

Thank you Diesel. What wrasse would you recommend that is good for a reef? I have never owned a wrasse before and know little about them.

Any kind, as long it's reef safe.
A good wrasse to start out with is a Mystery Wrasse or Yellowfin Flasher Wrasse they wouldn't break the bank either.
Remember most if not all wrasses are jumpers and many reefers did found there price winning flasher wrasses on the floor or they never found it again. yet till they broke down the tank and found him behind the stand where it been quiet for years maybe.

This guy here in Reno had all them plus a giant pajama Cardinal 3-4" all in a 120 gallon 4x2x2 tank. The guy paid someone $200 a month to take care of it and anything and everything that you could think of doing wrong was done. I am thankful I was able to get everything for $400 plus give them a bigger home. Soon to be even bigger. I'm going to be ditching the 150 gallon tank for a 250-300 gallon one to give them even more room.

Here is the cardinal with the copper butterfly for size comparison.
