Good day,

Please help, I'm 6 months into reefing and tank was doing great. Then yesterday stuff started going bad.

I saw that one coral wasn't happy and immediately checked parameters. (I check them every 3rd day, never less.) Then I see my ammonia is from zero to 0.25 on the API test. Why would it shoot up. I did a water change two days ago, but same as always. 20% change with same Red Sea Coral Pro salt

Now all the corals are unhappy.

First, what are these white spots on what I think is my Zoa?

Second why does this birdsnest have white tips and a big scar down the side?

Also my Xenia is closed and angry.

Mushroom looks ok.

Hammer is turning brown on some branches.

Sorry if this has been posted. I searched various words and did not find this problem.

Thanks for helping in advance.

White creatures on the zoas look like nudibranches, ?

Ammonia is fine for corals, food actually.

Parameter swings from water changes can easily cause corals to be unhappy.

stop making changes to fix the problem until you are certain about what you are dealing with.

Thank you Kris,

I left everything alone for few days. All corals are happy except for the Zoa. They still have these dots. I gently tried to remove but it's completely stuck to it. Any advise what it can be?

Have you tried dipping them?

This is a paly and it incorporates sand into itself.

This is a normal part of it's anatomy. You are making it mad trying to remove what it uses to support itself.

Usually the sand it chooses is finer, not sure why it chose bigger particles, maybe that is all that was available to it.

We are often our tanks own worst enemies with too much tinkering.

Thank you so much. I'll immediately leave it alone.

I googled for days trying to find info, nowhere did I see this great info. Thanks once again.

That the info isn't really talked about often I suppose. Zoa's don't do this, only Paly's.
