Looks like a branching alveopora. I think it's pretty much dead though...maybe a little life left on the top two branches.

So the dark spots are the good part... any advise on trying to save it..

Lower light requirements medium to low flow. Move it to the sand bed. They're a little harder to keep then most LPS.
What are the water parameters?

I've never had any luck with Avelopora, it's one of the corals that should be left in the ocean IMHO.
