I just purchased a new filter and it is causing me problems. My connection from the bottom of the tank (grey hose) does not fit into the fittings that came with the filter. I used some adapters to bridge the gap. You can see in the picture how I did this. Problem is that water is leaking where the grey meets the white. The water (instead of going into the filter) is trickling down the back of the filter and getting on the bottom of the stand (and carpet). You can see in the other pictures how my connections don't fit unless I have an adapter. Any ideas? I need to figure something out soon b/c I haven't been running the filter regularly since I don't want to ruin my carpet. I am an accountant not a plumber. The answer may be simple but apparently not for me.

You can glue those connections, rather than using clamps. And really you probably should so that you can get the metal out of there.

I was a little afraid to glue the connections because if it doesn't solve my problem then I have to replace the hoses. The hoses are glued into the connection from the tank. I hear you on the clamps though. I end up replacing them once a year. At least they are cheap.

You should actually get rid of that whole mess and switch to Braided Vinyl Tubing and for the connections, use male/female fittings with barbs on it. Those ribs are going to collect debris and cause issues later on.

That sounds like a smart thing to do if I had any clue what you were talking about. :) I will look into that though and consider. I bought the tank off of craigslist and have never been crazy about how it was plumbed. Thanks for the suggestion!
