I have a 150 gallon mixed reef. I currently have an aqua uv 80 watt (unit has 2 forty watt bulbs, runs thru run chamber then to the next chamber)on it plumbed thru the return pump via hose. All return water runs thru this UV.

I recently had a velvet/brook outbreak that wiped out more than half the fish. Tank is now fallow, survivors in qt. Wanting to get a bigger uv (hope it helps, not a definite), I saw the true single bulb 80 watt oentaires or 120 watt single bulb were way out of my price league . (1,100 +) luckily, I was at my lfs, who had the aqua uv 100 watt unit sitting in the back. It was there a few years, somebody wanted it and never came back for it. It was missing the bulb (aqua uv 100 watt bulb is $400) the lender told me I can have the unit for $200, and I ended up buying a knock off bulb for $150, so for $350, i have a brand new unit that normally runs $2,200 retail price.

The thing is a cannon, and I believe needs 1 inch inlet and outlet at the minimum. My currently 80 watt on the tank is 3/4 off the return pump, back to 1 inch on the tank.

I have 2 options, rip the 80 out, change it over to 1 inch, and put the 100 watt on instead. Or leave the 80 watt on the return, and just run a closed loop on the 100 with its own pump. Putting a pump inside the tank would probably look ridiculous. How else can this be done to incorporate the two? Right now my return pump, feeds both outlets into the tank.

Thanks

They make adapters where you can plug in to your existing setup. See pics. But why not run both off one pump? Also when it comes to diseases are you sure that the uv will kill everything off? Cause some parasites live in the sand as larva.
