Yesterday we looked at favorite shrimp. Today I'd like to see what member's favorite snail is and why. Snails are a real workhorse in any CUC and there are many types to choose from. New members often ask which type they should get so maybe we can offer some insight. So what is your favorite and why?

I like my terbos, they have mowed through everything. When I started the system 3 years ago, I put in 3 and still have 3.

I utilize several snails on the list, but would have to say my favorite is the nassarius snail. They are really cool looking, stir the sand by burying themselves, and are very active (especially at night). They clean up decaying animals and detritus very efficiently! Plus, did I mention they look cool! :D

I chose trocus since I have a bb seahorse tank. They are good grazers but not quite the bulldozers there larger relative (turbos) are. They don't need to be rescued from falling on their backs which is a plus when you have a tall tank that goes up to your armpits.

However, if I had a sandbed I would choose nassarius. It is so important that mysis does not lay and rot in a seahorse tank and nassarius are so cool how they rise up out of the sandbed and find all the mysis.

Conchs are my favorite

Mine too! If they were on the list that would be my pick. They are above being on a list with just regular cuc snails though. Ha

That makes three of us!

I don't think there is a better snail for grooming the sand bed

I actually meant to include the conch on the poll and obviously forgot. Feel free to change your vote as it's added now.

Trochus because they reproduce easily to self sustain their population, and Mexican turbos because they bulldoze everything.
