Polyp Problems???

I went to a local swap on Saturday and came back with 10 nice frags (5 zoas, 2 acans, 1 digi, 1 monti and an ora birdsnest) and a Red Fromia Star. I drip acclimated them for 1.5 hours, dipped the frags in Revive Coral Cleaner and then floated the star for 30 more minutes just to be safe. All of the frags were open at the swap and I only had them bagged for less than an hour. Saturday night a few of the new polyps opened and the star started crawling along the sand. Sunday there was a chunk missing from the stars leg and it looked like his guts were hanging out of his mouth. Most of the polyps started to open and then closed by mid afternoon. I had planned a water change for sunday night, but added about 2 gallons of fresh salt water on Saturday after depleting that much with the drip and changed another 3 gallons on Sunday for my regular total of 5 gal per week on my 24 gal tank.
Today (Monday) I took the star out, he lost one leg and had a hole in the middle of his body, I don't know what I did wrong, but my daughter cried and wanted to bury him. All of the new polyps are closed and some of my established colonies are also closed. Two colonies of palys are half closed, but the lps and sps look unaffected. My temp climbed to 84 degrees last night (That is the last time I trust a Jager heater), but declined to 79 throughout the day. I did water tests this afternoon - results:
Specific Gravity - 1.024
Temp - 79.8
Ammonia - 0
PH - 8.3
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 0
Calcium - 440
DKH - 10
Phosphate - 0
I don't have an electrical tester sensitive enough to test connectivity, but the last time I had a problem (Stealth Heater) I could feel it in the water and there is no jolt today. My light bulbs were new on 1-27-10 and nothing else changed.
I don't know what else to check - Any Suggestions?

Everything to me sounds like you did the right thing. But thats just it with saltwater, things just happen. I bought 1 darth Maul and 1 mohawk and 5 purple beautiful zoas. the DM and Mohawk took 3months to open and the 5 prpls took 5 months to open!!! I have no clue why things like this happen but stick with it.

Thanks, I'm mixing water for another 25% change tomorrow to see if that helps. I don't know what else to try.

Don't forget to run some fresh carbon. U never know what's in a water .

I stopped at my lfs on the way home from work today and he said that he has talked to 3 other people who bought at the swap who have had the same problems. He thought that by dipping in Revive, I killed enough critters to create a minor amonia spike which would close up all of the zoas but not affect fish and inverts. I bought a new poly filter and did a 25% water change ( which makes a total of 10 gal out of a 24 gal tank since saturday ). I also added a chemical ammonia counteractant that he said would help. I asked about carbon, but he said that the poly filter would be a better option. If things aren't better tomorrow, more water changes.
