Anyone have experience keeping two porcupine puffers together? Or say a dogface/porky. I know it is not recommended but I know people do it. Would like to hear your experiences!

I would not try two porcupine, that could backfire. You're safer with dogface porcupine. Porcupine aren't particularly hardy, so be choosey.

How big is the tank?

My porky is very docile. I have hermits and 3 peppermint shrimp he doesn't mess with. I actually see the shrimp cleaning him off. I thought about a chocolate chip starfish but didn't do it

Those guys are amazing! My LFS has a guineafowl but I don't think I've seen a mappa around. And behavior differences in them. Maybe I'll get one!

Thanks. I love puffers... I have a home office I work from so they get fed a lot.. I think I'm lucky that I don't have any problems.. The mappa grows very quickly.. The guineafowl is my favorite.. Just a great personality.. I can pet him.. That reticulated dogface, has awesome colors.. Mappa can change colors on the fly.. Go from that leopard look to a very dark look.. I had one golden puffer that was horribly agressive that attacked every puffer in there.. I had to trade in for that smaller guy.... Just feed a lot!!!

Yea my porky sure does beg for food! I feed them every night. I'm looking into a Stars and Stripes puffer also. I take it you absolutely have zero inverts!?

Fish only... Stars and stripes are nice they also get big quick... They are more on agressive side. Them and a starry puffer have more of a mean streak... A mix like mine i I think gives you a better chance of mixing.. Dogfaces are mellow.. Guineafowls are usually.. Mappas for most part are mellow.. And try and mix sizes.. Just my two cents.... Lol....

How should I choose a guineafowl.. can you get them very very small. I've only seen some that are about 4". Is that a juvenile?

Thanks! After deep research I found numerous people who housed two porkys and had success. I actually didn't find one case where they did not have success. I'm sure they would be fine but what's stopping me is me having a 180 gallon. When they both get over a foot long you won't be able to see my rockscape or anything but those big ole boats. Maybe one day when I get my 400g!! . Haha.

They have a guineafowl for $80 and my LFS. They also have a yellow belly dogface. Is that the same as a golden..?

Yellow belly is different than a golden.. A golden puffer is actually a guineafowl puffer.. Weird. But in captivity a golden stays a golden and a guineafowl stays a guineafowl

We live and learn! With patience, and proper steps, it's a very rewarding hobby (for the most part)

Can I add coral or inverts? If so do I start the 75 day fallow period every time something is added ?
