Tank looks great, Poseidon! I like the stock list too.

Thanks, most of the fish are fairly common, but have good colors!

Great setup.

I can't wait till you get the Reef Breeder LEDs. Did you order the Value Cree or Bridgelux setup?

Thank you, I went with the Cree fixture, sticking with the manual controls for now. I am anxious to see his new Supernova fixture as well, the built in controller is especially appealing.

Nothing wrong with fairly common fish, Poseidon. I too have fairly common ones yet as you say, the colors really set things off.

Have you ever checked out the Kessil A350W? I was looking at them at an LFS near my office and while they are absent of some of the automatic features, they're small, produce great light, and really look nice on a tank.

I did take a peak at them, I liked the pendant style, but was concerned with light spill into the room. The tank is very close to our seated position, especially my wife, so having a very focused light is important. What LFS were you at? I hear that Fish Dr's in Ypsi has them...

Pet Connection in Livonia has 2 of them over a shallow frag tank. I was pretty impressed by them. For now however I'm keeping with my T5 and will be supplementing with some stunner strips or the like very soon.

Post for wants/needs as of today:

Float switch(es) for RO Unit. (I don't want to make any more messes in the basement.)
Circulation Pump(s), I am leaning towards 2 MP10's, but I am open to a good deal on an MP40 or comparable Tunze with the 7096 controller.
Skimmer, I have one on loan to me. It is a Reef Octopus I will need to replace and return this skimmer at some point. I really like Warner Marine skimmers, and I have even contacted my friend that bought my old K-2, he is upgrading tanks and moving soon, so I may have a shot at getting my old skimmer back!
Livestock!
Fish list is looking like this today:
Green Chromis
Firefish (Red probably)
Bartlett's Anthias
Hawaiian Flame harem, 1 Super male, 3 Females
Purple tang
Pair of clowns (I actually like plain old Occy's)
(Something Yellow) ;)

Clean up crew of a variety of snails only, no crabs!

Ok, I think that is it for now, a nice place holder post to see how close I get to today's thoughts.
good deal man. tank is looking good. :)

Had a surprise visit from the post office today:

Notice anything different? My LIGHT showed up!!!! This is the Reef Breeders Cree "Value" fixture. 40 LED's, 90 degree optics, and manual dimming. There are red/green LED's on the white channel as well. I ended up hanging it from the ceiling using some "plant hooks" and some 1/16 galvanized cable, it is currently 9" off the water, I was going for 8" but I "Zigged" when I should have "Zagged" while cutting the cables. No biggie though, I can always drop it a bit if needed.

Same view as above, from my spot on the couch! This is with all lights at 100%. I know a somewhat local friend that has a PAR meter, I am sure I can get a hold of him to do some testing.

Those will come soon enough. I want to build my bioload a bit first. I am planning on a paly by the name of "Gobstopper" and some neon green torch, both of which were frags from my 90 and are mandatory additions to my new tank. :)

Sweet, I have the palies, I believe they are cat eyes? Maybe gobstopper is just another name. Nice paly either way.

Nice lights! I think the 9 inch will be fine and help you get a little more spread to the edges of the sand. Would love to see your par rating, but remember and LED par rating is much different than metal halide or t5. you need lower par with leds :)

That's a start!

It is a start, a safe one. ;)

WOW!! That looks great.

Thanks! This is the hard part, waiting for a bio bed to mature, and not adding a bunch of corals right away.

Yes, I hear 20-30% less as the blue packs a wallop, and doesn't show up on the Apogee meter correctly.

I was getting the start of some diatoms growing on the rock work when I had the T5's in place, last night when I came home, after only 24 hours of LED on the tank, the diatoms are in FULL BLOOM! (Well there are a LOT more of them on the rocks.)

I may have to add a couple critters to the mix, maybe a Mexican Turbo or 2, and some Tiger Trochus to get things started.

will you be stocking with frags or mini colonies for coral? Frags always take a bit longer to get started but in a year or two I always like how they grow in naturally rather than mini colonies that already have growth patterns.

Yes, it has been a while since I have had to cycle a tank. I knew it was coming, but that doesn't make it any less ugly! ;)

Definitely FRAGS! I have a select list of vendors, and friends that I will accept frags from. I know that sounds bad, but there are so many potential pests, I just don't want to take any chances. Even fish will come from a short list of local shops, I will gladly pay more for a fish that I know has been at least partially QT'd or even better yet, treated prior to being made available for sale.

I ordered a piece of glass... the EPDM foam tape didn't last, I went down this morning to clean out the filter sock and noticed my second baffle was leaning over to the side. The first baffle is also loose, but since it is the "under" it is not as critical.

Now, off to the glass shop, drain the bottom sump, silicone in a baffle, and re-fill. Sounds like a fun day. :(
