Hello all,

i just inspected my QT fish after completing the 90 day treatment for marine velvet and noticed my Tang had some marks on its sides that didn’t look like velvet or ich. I’m wondering if they may just be scratches from rubbing up on some comfort items I put in the QT tank during their stay? If it IS from scratching my guess would be that it’s from the birds nest skeleton that I threw in there.

Any insite would be really appreciated.

I agree - it could be 'scratches'. Any way you can show a picture 'in the water'? Are they improving/worsening/any redness?

what did you use for QT - and were levels (if copper) checked? Did you do a freshwater dip?

Freshwater dip at time of velvet discovery prior to QT

There’s no redness and I hadn’t noticed them until recently. It seems content resting the marks on the coral skeleton so I’m leaning toward that being the cause, I just wanted a few other opinions, and if I should keep him out of the DT

Unfortunately - its difficult to see the 'wounds' because of the stuff on the glass. Curious how did you choose the dose of 1.7 for copper safe - did you monitor the level daily?

I read a bunch of people arguing about the proper dosing of coppersafe and the high number was 2.0 and low was 1.5 so I split the difference. I checked every few days.

I was playing it safe because I’m new with it. So at the time the lower numbers seemed safer to me because I’ve read the horror stories of overdosing. And I’ve overdosed NOPOX in the past and suffered greatly for it.

My opinion - those are 'odd' looking lesions. I know thats not saying much. FWIW - the new guidelines for velvet are as others have said more towards 2-2.5. I dont know of any clear way to differentiate between a wound from the small tank - and the coral, another process, scarring from the other infection - or even perhaps skin issues from copper. Did you do a FW dip or treat with any other medication?

Appears to be excess mucous buildup from velvet spores which can actually be active as much as 20 days after treatment as any tomonts if preset can be released every 3-5 days.
Is this what you see, Im sure not but we dont know that. I would now treat with ruby rally Pro which will address velvet and skin issue and is deemed reef safe.
Do this for at least two weeks , but first give fish a 5 minute freshwater dip in temperature same as display tank. Aerate the dip water if you can and expect the fish to play dead in the container of FW

I did a FW dip an hour ago and then had to go
To work. It seems to resemble HLLE (my scopas had it in the DT when I was running carbon). I will start rally and update when I get home. Thank you for the input!

Coppersafe at a full dose should be above 2 ppm, more like 2.5. What are you testing with? A low dose of coppersafe or copper power won't have much benefit.

The spots could be scratches, or they could be marks from flukes (copper won't help with that). Does the tang have any other symptoms, such as poor appetite or rapid breathing?
