My fish community gets along really well at the moment in their 280 gallon. After trouble with a yellow that I had to rehome , I had decided one tang only, so I picked my favorite, a hippo tang. Have had it for about a year and half. Before the hippo I had a powder brown which I really loved but the yellow tang tore it up. Walked in lfs yesterday and saw a beautiful small powder brown. I know these are less aggressive than powder blue and in my experience more docile than a yellow also. My hippo is about 3" and the powder brown is about the same size. I keep telling myself, be content with what you have and choose something else besides a tang, but can't let go of the idea it might work out. Needing to hear some horror stories to keep me from trying mixing tangs again.

I’ve had many hippos and I’ve never seen one act aggressive. Hippos, nasos, and the bristletooth tangs are the most docile in my experience.

The Acanthurus genus is the most aggressive.

I think I can work. Adding a powder brown to an established blue tang usually works 90% of the time.

But powder browns are aggressive, and any future tang will probably get bullied from the brown.

My power brown is the mean one between him and the power blue. Lucky I have a 210 gal with lots of caves as well as open water and I feed them well. They only chasing each other a few times each day
