Power heads vs Wave makers

I have a 55 gallon saltwater tank and I’m new to corals. I currently just want to keep xenia and GSPs in there. Would a power head be sufficient to generate enough flow for those corals or should I buy a wavemaker?

To me they are relatively the same, I've never understood the difference.

Personally wavemakers/gyres ime end up with coral colonies that have a more "natural" shape due to the variation in flow, but any should get the job done!
