Hello all I have a jbj 65 gallon that I would like to make a predator/aggressive tank. My two must haves are a snowflake eel and dwarf lion fish. I need help filling out the rest of the aquarium stock list. I plan on having coral but am not set on it yet and would likely keep it to cheap/hardy softies/lps. My wants are a pair of maroons (maybe with a carpet anemone) and a tang of some sort to serve as algae control. All suggestions are welcome and i’m looking forward to y’all’s ideas!

That's an awful lot of predatory fish for a 65g tank. If you want those size fish, you should be looking at a 180g tank.

With a carpet anemone, you surely will regret putting it into a 65g. There is an extreme likelihood it will eat any and all your fish it can.
I have a 110g predator reef that is being upgraded to a 180g to accommodate my current fish inventory.
The snowflakes and dwarf lionfish and clowns (in a different type of anemone) sound like a great start. Personally, there is no way I would add a tang to this stocking list, not bc of the interaction, but for lack of space. Predators eat a lot and grow a lot.
A dwarf angel would be a nice way to add a pop of color, but are considered reef-safe with caution. I have not seen my coral beauty pick at any coral in my 55g.
I have a Midas blenny in my 55g (not a predatory reef) who adds tons of color and excellent personality. That's another consideration for you.
Hope that helps 🧜🏼‍♀️

What would you think i could stock in there? I am aware tangs are pretty much a no go. Snowflake, dwarf lionfish and maroons going to be too much? Do you agree with Ochidmiss that an angelfish would be acceptable?

I would skip the eel. Those are 2 feet long and eels do like to stretch out and swim around if they have the room. My 5 morays are in an 8 foot 300 gallon. They curl up sometimes then other times they are swimming around the rocks at the bottom fully stretched out and in the open swimming space.

The eel is probably a no-go actually with the other fish since they do get a little long. Any smaller peaceful fish are going to be targets...predators are going to hunt. A 65g tank would probably house a couple lionfish and maroon easily. You can add the dwarf angel, but it will probably be targeted if you miss a feeding for the predators.
