So we’ve got painters coming next month and I need to move the reef tank out from the wall. It’s a 27 gallon cube with about 8 gallons of water in the sump. My idea is to get a number of containers and drain the sump almost 100 percent and the display 3/4 of the way. Carefully pull it to the center of the room, refill with the recently removed water, and power everything back up. Biggest concern is a rock fall if moved too fast or sand bed getting stirred if I do something dumb. All told I don’t think this will take more than 30 minutes from draining to moving and then refilling. Does this sound like a viable plan and is there anything else to take in to consideration? Any ideas or personal experience would be appreciated!

Get some carpet sliders from HD/Lowes and you shouldn't have any trouble at all. Two guys - one to push down low, the other to keep it from rocking.
