Preserving live rock, moving long distance

I currently have a 110 gallon undrilled tank with an HOB overflow with live rock and fish/inverts only. We are moving from Virginia to Florida in April and I have decided after much thought since I really don't see a way to get a tank set up and cycled before moving to sell my fish here rather than trying to move them 850 miles and chance losing some. I plan on purchasing a Waterbox Infinia 150 tank and sump once in Florida and would like to take my live rock with me and keep it until I get the tank and get it set up and cycling. I have a couple of 20 gallon Rubbermaid Brute cans so if I put the live rock in them covered with tank water will it be ok for the few weeks that it will take to move etc.?

AS long as you can pick them up the rock should be ok. Add circulation for better results.
Also, if there is a lot of algae or other things growing on the rocks (soft corals) they might die without light and pollute the water. The bacteria should hold on, unless the buckets freeze

Along the same line after I remove the fish etc. I assume it is ok to just leave it sitting in the running tank with the power heads running for the 3 or so weeks until moving day?

Yep… just let it run. Run it, move it and get circulation set back up when you arrive. As stated, there will be algae die off, but it should be fine and recover quickly once in the display with lights.
