He has risen!
I got home from work with a plan..
Step 1- feed everyone another big nutritious meal, lay down a tarp, and remove everything from my 400g tank.
Step 2- catch all of the fish and give them a 150ppm 30 minute peroxide bath
Step 3- transfer everyone to two separate 27g tubs, because doing it all together wouldn’t by true monster tank fashion, we gotta make things even more difficult lol.
Now the plan is to leave the fish in each tub for no more than 72 hours, from there they are transferred to new saltwater and the heater, pvc, and tub are all bleached and placed in front of a fan. This process will repeat for at-least 2 weeks, with H202 baths every 6 days. So far all of the fish, even the lion and puffer have done great with the peroxide bath, and the mimic tang started eating! I couldn’t believe my eyes but the mysis/selcon did the trick!
So what’s next, I’m not going to stare at an empty monster tank for 60 days, I can’t add fish, & I don’t want to break the cycle.. this is where it gets fun!
PS- I’m weird ab putting fish in anything without beneficial bacteria, so I grabbed a piece of rubble from my other healthy display tank, this along with a splash of turbo start should keep ammonia at ease. The only catch is you have to toss the rubble after the 3 days because well it’s going to be an ich rock hehe
Ohh the work

Haha ya seems simple just writing it out, but we know hours on end of work. Appreciate the support, just getting them out was a lot, I killed all the lights and took the catch approach, definitely worth removing everything and it helped to have a pond net :)

#TTM 6 days after the first one, all of the fish received a 2nd #H202 bath and their 3rd new tub of saltwater. This one is the same deal new clean tub, heater, air stone/hose and rubble LR. Everyone is eating mysis, clams, salmon, and nori.. they better keep it up! So I can’t enjoy fish and don’t want to break my cycle.. Let’s add some inverts.
Round 1
Big hermit to crack open frozen clams

300 ghost shrimp to find the fine stuff

1 arrow crab to look creepy and give you something to hunt around for

Annnnd a chocolate chip starfish, he does look cool and will be a nice welcome present for Ol harlequin

Took the boy to visit #Moody gardens in Galveston, TX.. the #jellyfish really won me over they were too cool not to share. I also couldn’t believe the size of their tangs and angels, really brought to perspective how small a 400g is, definitely won’t by adding any >12” tangs to this tank!

Really enjoyed moody gardens when we visited. I thought it was going to be a tourist trap, but that center cylinder tank is stunning

Well, here it is, the 2nd phase of inverts to keep my cycle moving and give me something to look at. I guess we will be celebrating the return of fish with a crab boil :flushed-face: Now obviously these guys might turn out to be more destructive than I bargained for, BUT I'm giving them a chance, as long as they don't saw my gyres in 1/2 or completely rip apart my aquascape then they will remain fat and happy, for ab 60 days :) #bluecrab #crab

Right, I had a blast, it's definitely one of the top aquariums we've visited, everyone enjoyed the multi-level viewing of all the tanks too. After Moody we went to Rainforest Cafe and I immediately felt the tourist trap vibe lol

Quick update, everyone made it through the 2 week TTM! While it was a pain doing two tubs at once (x4 heaters, air lines, sets of PVC) it was worth it! All of the fish are clear of trophonts and back to their normal self, NO copper I’ve been feeding x4 small meals a day, and moved everyone into a 70g storage tote. The plan is to run full 6weeks fallow on the display, then add a few black mollys to monitor for spots. I let everything adjust to 80f for 2 weeks then recently added a 600w BRS heater and cranked it, the tank is now sitting at 85F, which should speed up the ich life cycle. The blue crabs duked it out for a couple of days but dropped one by one, which was a bit disappointing, I guess you can’t expect much life when they came from a cold dry seafood market. I added another 200 ghost shrimp who are swimming around happy as can be, munching on clams, algae wafers, and frozen octopus to keep the cycle going.
Next on the list is to finish the main lighting and start getting ready for the new round of fish. Theres 14 in QT right now with DRREEFSQUARENTINEDFISH I’ve learned my lesson though, even through these are going through QT, they will still be getting the TTM before hitting the display:)

Well I’m happy to say, we have fish back in the tank! On 5/24 the Sailfin tang was moved to the sump, and today the 2 clowns and fu Lion joined him. That marked right at 51 days fallow, with 2 weeks @80F and 4 weeks @85F. So far they seem to be doing good..
A few new things came in as well..
1 Gigas clam from BIOTA, approx 3”
X3 blotchy anthias (very small) in QT
X1 possum wrasse (med) in observation
X1 watanabe angel (med) in observation

A few weeks ago I added some tester corals, 4 jars of algae barns eco pods, and have been dosing live phyto every day, time to get this party started!!

I love those blotchy anthias. Keep us posted. Great job by the way.

Shell
Really appreciate it, just learning as it goes.. I had one blotchy around 5” but he was a total jerk to new fish so I traded him towards these. Just knew he was going to harass my sunbust and didn’t want to deal with it, hopefully these little guys are cool :)

Added another test rock to the tank, this should bring over more bio diversity! Picked up a new simplicity 540DC skimmer that’s breaking in.. speaking of breaking in, added this little Amazon HOB skimmer on my QT tank and it pulled this out the first 2 days, can’t beat that for >80 bucks! We’ve been debating putting a pool in the backyard, it’s not happening this summer though so we set up the boy a little 500g, BRS heaters save the day when mornings start out chilly hehe
