I dose the BRS Mag mix which I mix according to the directions on the side of their supplement containers, which says 5 cups of Magnesium Chloride hexahydrate and 3 cups of Magnesium Sulfate mixed to a level of 1 gal with RODI water. Although in Ryan's video he says it's 7 1/4 to 3/4 cup ratio to the 1 gal total mix.

What's the proper mixing ratios?

Hey there!

There are two different mixing instructions for the Magnesium. The 5:3 ratio is for use with our Alk/Ca 2-part dosing solutions, while the mixing instructions Ryan demonstrates in this video is for those who use a Calcium Reactor, Kalkwasser or an alternative method of maintaining Alk/Ca. :)

If you are using the 2-part kit, you will want to use the 5:3 ratio. :)

I am curious why the brs site only shows the 5:3 ratio in their instructions. Also, on my newer container of mag chloride it only shows the 5:3 meanwhile on my older mag sulfate container it shows both mixing ratios(other for kalk) Why isn't the kalk ratio on the newer containers or on the website???

As stated, the 5:3 ratio is if you're using the BRS Alk and Calc recipes as well. This ratio balances out the ions and everything is happy. A further explanation of the amounts, and why you use them, can be found in THIS ARTICLE from Dr. Holmes Farley. The BRS recipe (5:3 ratio for Magnesium) is based on Randy's Recipe 1.

Thanks for the reply but it doesn't really answer my main question.

I was responding to the OP. Your query can only be answered by BRS.
