Is the placement of my protein Skimmer in the first chamber a good idea?
I've done so for two reasons.
1. The water level in this compartment maintains the water level nesscessary for my Skimmer to work at its maximum efficiency.
2. I wish to eventually establish a refugium in the sumps second compartment.

If anyone can share their prospective, I would greatly appreciate it.

I think it should be fine. The only concern maybe that you don’t have a mechanical filter before it to remove the larger detritus. But I think you’ll still be ok.

The overflow box spongecatches large detritus and i keep small hermit crabs in there to clean that up and then a sock into the sump that catches anything that may get through.
