Just joined from Fargo ND! I have a 55 gallon high end brackish tank with 2 puffers, Green Spotted and a Saba Puffer. Moving to salt as soon as I get a skimmer. Not a true reef tank, just aiming for a heavily decorated marine tank.

Couple of questions.
1. HOB Skimmer recommendations for people on a budget

2. Can someone explain the deal about live rock? I get that curing it for bacteria makes it "Live" but what is the best rock to use etc
Is the benefit to using dead coral the nooks and crannies for housing bacteria?

I have aragonite and crushed coral substrate to buffer my PH

3. How do you position power heads for flow? I have 2 pwr heads which are not adjustable as far as flow goes and puffers like limited movement. Should they face each other and at the top or bottom etc?
