Puffer puffing

every once in a while my puffer inflates for no apparent reason. I haven't seen him do it in about 6 months. It's kind of amazing and concerning at the same time.

I had a puffer do that also, I'd look over and he'd be all puffed up floating around like a balloon in the breeze. I never could find out what was causing it. I saw it a few times over a few weeks, then never saw him do it again. I had him for years afterwards. I hope you get it figured out.

Usually they puff up when there startled or mad about something. But what kind of puffer fish is that because the blue is really nice looking

I had one that would do it in the mornings, as if it were stretching to help wake up.

I used to have a valentini puffer that would puff up out of annoyance, it seemed, when I was getting ready to feed the tank. He would also puff up at the flame shrimp for trying to clean him, or perhaps the shrimp was picking at him too. My flame shrimp is pretty rough when he tries to clean my nails!

That's just the lighting as the "sun" sets in the evening. It's a black Solomon Islands dogface puffer. He's actually quite happy lately because my emporator is in quarantine, and he picks on him a lot.

They do that. I think it is to make sure their skin and stomachs are still stretched out.

Mine is never stressed when he does it. I just walk into the room and he's huge. He always quickly deflates when he sees me and wants to eat.

Lastly, don't let another fish pick on your puffer. It isn't humane to the puffer. If they can't get along give him to a local club member.

The angel nips at him around feeding time. If it becomes a big problem the angel goes before he does.
