pump for 90g

I have a 90g with a cpr HOB overflow 1200 gph. I havnt filled the tank yet but i have a 20 gallon tall that im doing for a diy sump. I have 2 aqueon aq1700 pump rated up 450 gph for $10 bucks a piece brand new. can I just use one for return or is it possible to hook both up with pvc to joint together to give me 900 gph for return?

How high up are you pushing water back into the tank? Also think you may want to look at a new pump. I bought the jaebo dc12000 but you could easily just use the dc6000 look at fishstreet they are reasonably priced there

I love my reeflo pump. I have two 600 gph overflows and I run my reeflo in snapper mode at wide open but my head is 6.5" and uses 95 watts. May be overkill for your 90 but the great features is that you can throttle back the flow with a valve with no ill effects on the pump and it also reduces the wattage usage. It is external so no heat transfer to water. If you get a bigger tank its a hybrid and you only have to change the impeller that comes with it. I have the super dart snapper gold hybrid. You can get a lesser reeflo but the gold is made better. It comes with a 6400gph and 4200gph impeller. In run the lesser.

I believe you could run that pump at full open in the snapper mode especialy if you have an SPS tank. I would use a bigger sump though. Like I said you can throttle it back if need be.

Okay so it cost me $329 with free shipping. I know seams like a lot of money but you will get it back with energy savings, well if your currently set up with a higher wattage system pump like I replaced. I replaced over 300watts in pumps with this one at less than 100 watts.

My DC12000 uses less power then that pump and has the control to dial down flow without a valve added. Cost about 160 shipped

12000 is a submersible pump yes it's 84 watts at no head pressure but what is it at 5' and you also have heat soak to deal with. It is nowhere near the same pump as the reeflo but the dc12000 will work for you. And if space is an issue than submersible will be better for you. If adding heat to your water is not an issue than go that route. Here is a pic of mine hooked up to my 90 sump

DC pumps actually run cooler as the power conversion is done outside the tank. With mag12 My heater would kick on maybe 4 times a day. Now my heater kicks on about every hour. So cost savings in amount of flow is about same when I factor in heater kicking on. In summer months my tank runs a little hotter so should make up for not needing to worry about fans kicking on.
