Hello all,

Remodeling my tank from 210 to 428 display with a total volume of 687 gallons after Live Rock. I wanted a new thread for the remodel heavy with pictures and videos.

Gathering all my stuff together for the build. and will post as it goes.

Expanding the stand I have because its currently holding most of my LR and its got the external skimmer hooked up to it. Should be able to move it around a little but don't need much room to add onto the stand.

Here is the GARF specs for the tank. not sure if I'm for the euro bracing but it would get those darn braces out of the way.

Tank Information:
Material = Glass
Tank Height = 28"
Tank Width = 49"
Tank Length = 72 "
Glass Thickness = 1/2"
Approximate Gallons = 428

Cut List: have all glass ready to go
Bottom = 72 " x 48" Using plywood with epoxy for bottom. Sky blue yay!
Front = 72 " x 28"
Back = 72 " x 28"
2 Sides = 28 " x 48"
Top Front/Back brace = 72” x 2"
went with 6" wide instead of 2"
Top Sides brace = 45 7/8” x 2
went with 6" wide instead of 2"

Drains are dual 2'' herbie siphon.
Return from my dsp-20,000 sine wave pump and is plumbed with 3” PVC over up and over.
Skimming with a RK2 Systems RK5AC foam fractionator. 09/2019
Internal circulation by 3 WAV and 2 PP20.

If you wish to opine please do so.

Just updated to reflect current parts and supplies used 09/2019

Edit didn’t use these drians or manifold. I did go with dual 2’’ herbie with emergencies though

Ya I know it's a mess. I've been taking stuff apart. You can also see I was remodeling the tank as it was but decided now is the time to go bigger. I put 2 2'' drains in and 2 2'' emergencies but I think that will be to much even in the 428.

got a little overboard with the drains.

Mainfold I was going to use but not anymore. going to mak it as simple as possible.

Ok so 10 long days to get my glass bummer. Well is what it is.

I know I bought clear silicone but black looks appealing.... Any thoughts on this???

I wonder if it would look cool with the sky blue we picked for the bottom and overflow. bottom is plywood
This is what my wife and I picked out. pictures for reference of color. it will be bare bottom. Maybe black for the panel seams and clear along the bottom.

I'm building a new stand today as I want to do it differently and I can leave the old sump running until I'm ready to make the switch.

New sump design. It will be made out of plywood and then sealed with black pond shield.
What do you think?

@mdbannister can I get my DIYWIZZARD banner now lol. No really talk to David you should make one. ;Nailbiting

Ok so took some time and did a sump layout. I incorporated everything I wanted in the sump. I have the room so I’ll get the best filtration. I changed it slightly from my previous computer drawling. This will sit on top of cross braces and be on a plywood base. Please see next post for new computer drawing.
