What media is the best to use with a skimmer and Why?

IMO, there's no comparative data on exactly what these bind and how they differ.

I'd only use a polyfilter if the goal is to export metals.

I'd personally use GAC, but Purigen and chemipure are also going to bind organics.

Carbon is very high maintenance and is risky to your fish. If you don't have it setup perfectly it will grind itself up and can lead to HLLE in fish. I use Seachem Hypersorb for any chemical warfare my leather corals might be having.

I think that overstates the general case. There’s no need to have it moving at all and the risks of HLLE with an acid washed GAC not tumbling are not significant, in my opinion.

@jayhemdal I searched a few threads, but was curious on your opinion. I've had HLLE in the past with Emperor Angels and vowed to never go through that again. I'm using ROX in my reef tank with several purple tangs for years with no observable issues.

The emperor is going into a FOWLR tank and I'm paranoid about using ROX. I'm considering using Purigen as an alternative. Any thoughts?
