Purple Monster in Marau Sound, Solomon Islands 2003![]()
I visited Steve when he had his farm in a Laguna Beach (or was it Hills...) apartment. He had a Purple Monster in a 180, if I remember correctly. I'll check my notes...Sublime corals, Steve Tyree was the first to have the purple monster from what I know. Not sure who were the first few to have success with it but I would love to hear if anyone has any stories about it. Steve has a good post about it at one point.
Wonder if we can get him to confirm if he was where Harry got his. @LeishmanHaha looks like he already posted a few years ago in this thread. Not sure if he still has a piece. Or if he gave a piece to loa years back. I do know rik is an old school acro guy and been around a while.

It's really cool seeing everyone chime in with bits of the story.
What a bummer. I just reached out a few weeks ago for a frag and he didn’t have any at the moment. Hopefully he had a backup.I shipped frags of the PM all over the place. I never kept records. I know Copps just lost his colony. I have not owned this coral for over 10 years.
@Sublime Corals how is this frag looking now?Heres the frag I just got.

in contrast to many others, the PM looks better and really stands out under 14K or 10K lighting, compared to 20K. That pic was taken under Kessils.what lights is that under toaster?
Very well said. This is 100% why I give free frags to responsible accomplished reefers. It’s not about the $$, it’s about preserving the rare stuff.
