Purple Queen Anthias

I'm not really worried, then don't seem to care about anything but themselves. What was odd though was the anthias showing slight aggression towards my green mandarin.

To see purple queen Anthias eat PE mysis would be a site to see. That's a large food item for them. They are not hard fish to get to eat but really difficult to get to eat anything other than really tiny stuff. They normally end up starving really slowly and just withering away cause most aren't willing to feed them enough times per day to keep them fed well on tiny specs of food. If you can start them on nutrimar ova and ween them onto some chopped up mysis along with some tiny pellets that would be a good start. Good luck with them.

x2....Brett and myself have both kept them and even my almost fully grown 5" male didn't take full size PE myssis, he would try,but spit it out becuase it's too large, so I highly doubt that your juvi/females take them....very good advice given...multiple feedings with small foods, NutraMar Ova, cyclopeeze, baby brine and then start mixing in small pellets etc...it may take many months ...GL

I suspect that it and the mandarin may have wanted the same piece of food, since they are both so small-mouthed.

Well they're both eating a pretty good amount already for only being in the tank for 4 days. I was super excited when they started pigging out and I do mean pigging out. They were both sucking down any little particles they could get and darting all over looking for more. I soaked all the food in Selcon too.

The one is still a bit shy but they are coming out more and more every day. They appear to be looking for pods too so hopefully that with feeding will sustain them nicely. I'm going to start growing phyto next and once that takes off pods and rotifers.

All these extra feeding and no increase in algae growth and my corals are blowing up. My gorgonian loves it and its helping my sun coral and silk tree coral a lot too. Tonight the tank get a dose of Azox too. After an hour with the Koralias running the tank is pretty much cleared of all particulate food and I've been feeding it pretty heavily at each feeding.

They pretty much just beg for food with the rest of the bunch when I walk up to the tank now. Not eating pellets yet but eat out of the slurry of food I squirt in 3 times a day. One had an slight eye infection. Some kind of hazy bubble over its eye but that hes cleared up completely. One of the two is still a bit shy though and hides a lot. Pretty good results though. Hopefully they start tanking some pellet pieces soon.

P. Queens are not that difficult, you just have to feed them multiple times a day. if you have an auto feeder, you can set it up to the smallest amount and 5-6 times a day feeding (into the path of a powerhead if possible). The true difficult anthias is the ventralis b/c they require low tempt water, like 72F. And low light (or a lot of caves) due to they are deep water species.
