I am getting so frustrated. Yes my purple tang is fat and healthy but he tries to kill me every time I put my hand in the tank. It’s become quite a production if a coral falls and I have to suit up. He will even try to attack me if I put my hand near the glass. I’m considering rehoming him because I’m starting to become bitter…I

have you tried feeding the tank when you gotta go in?

Have you tried leveling with him and explaining how his aggression makes you feel like he is ungrateful?

I’d try those steps first!

You can try wearing long rubber gloves

well, to be the tang's advocate, they are prisoners in our little glass cages that were kidnapped from across the world, maybe it just wants to get back to its family....

Someone should make that into a kids movie.

I had a large orange shoulder tang that behaved that way for months. Me trying to bully him back was NOT successful at all. I was on HIS turf. He finally managed to spike me hard on the knuckle, to the bone; it hurt for days. I would've netted him, but he (to this day) was the most productive herbivore I've ever watched.

LFS told me to start hand feeding only. Within a week he was delighted for me to put my arms in anytime I wanted. Most times I would give him something but after a while he realized the symbiotic nature of our relationship. He hammers all my algae, I treat him with some clam meat now and then.
