I thought the whole purpose of live sand was due to the fact that it has bacteria already in it and rinsing it before putting in the tank would reduce the amount of active bacteria introduced into the tank.

Rinsing “live” sand will definitely reduce the already minimal amount of bacteria that may still be alive in it.

Those bags of sand go thru major temp swings and who knows how long they sat there.

I wonder how much was in there when it was collected and how much is there when we actually use it.

I personally doubt there is that much bacteria in it by the time we get it and use it. That’s just my opinion.

I personally don’t spend the extra money for it. I spend it on a bottle of BioSpira or Dr Tim’s and have guaranteed success quickly and efficiently.
