Question for someone in the broadcast industry

Why are radio station microphones as big as a big cucumber

and television station microphones just clip on and are not even noticeable

Don't they all sound about the same?

Inquiring minds want to know!

In a radio station that is the only mic. Same goes for concerts where the mics are larger... On TV there are the attached mini-mics, but there are also mics you don't see. The wonderful people on the sound boards can mix the mics to get the best sound without ruining the image with a huge mic in their face...

Remember TV you see and Radio you just hear. It doesn't matter if there is a mic in their face or not on radio, but the image matters on TV ;)
