This is my first attempt at an acro dominated reef tank. How do I judge how many acro frags to throw in there? I’m 11 months in and the tank is finally stable. I’m seeing most frags encrusting and I’m noticing better color on a daily basis. I’m tempted to add a lot more sticks but I also want to leave room for growth. The goal (although I’m not sure I will be successful) is to have wall-to-wall sticks.

My tank is 60” x 26w” x 24t” and I have ~25 frags. What is the rule for spacing? I’ll try to post a few pics for folks to judge if I have room.

On my reefs, I try to mount the stix onto a rock that is about the size of a lemon. I then set "the lemon" onto the rock work. That way as it grows or I notice that it needs to be moved to a better spot, it is easy without busting the coral.
Cheers! Mark

That is a great idea. I watched videos by coral euphoria on YouTube where he has a system with a bunch of drill holes in his rock work so he can move frags around easily. This seems like an easier version of that methodology. Where do you get the linen size rocks?

Keep adding them. :). I always mount them on a good size ball of epoxy. This way even after being encrusted they can be popped off easily.

If you’re good, the only limit is your wallet. Add as many as you can afford, if you can keep them all alive.

Buy big rock, smash with hammer. it is especially rewarding after a long hard day at work.

It is entirely on how you want the final product to look. I left approximately 6 inches between every frag so I can have larger colonies. You can cram them much closer if you are prepared to do a lot of trimming as they grow and you are looking for more, smaller colonies.
