Question Mogul vs DE bulbs

Actually, those figures came by plugging in an Icecap electronic ballast for both bulbs....

Obviously some SE mogul bulbs perform better than others, and the ballast can make a big difference even with the same bulb. A given SE bulb/ballast configuration may even out perform an underperforming DE bulb/ballast configuation of the same wattage. I have a 175w SE 14k Iwasaki bulb that puts out almost as must PAR as a 400w SE 20k XM bulb on the same tank (according to Sanjay's ratings).
If you want mogul bulbs, and you are really concerned about having enough PAR, I say do your research on Sanjay's site. Match bulb, ballast, color temp and wattage to find an SE configuration that approaches that of your current DE set up.

right now I run Phoenix 14k 250 on an electronic and really love the look- icy blue. I would love to keep that look if I go to SE. I was reading up on Aquamaxx bulbs and they rival Radiums and are cheaper.

We have couple of hobbiest in our local club that have replaced Reeflux 12K bulbs with the Aquamaxx 14K and you can not see any difference in the lighting, even in the pix. You can get the Reeflux for $56 online, which is cheaper than the Aquamaxx at MD. That is 400 W flavor, the 250s go for $52.
