Question on Goby

Hi there, I have had my sw tank for 3 weeks now, added chemicals in so I could add fish within instantly (but I waited for a few days). I’m adding tomorrow a royal gramma, and maybe a cardinal, but I was wondering if it’s safe to put a goby in when I have a patch of cyano on the sand.

Btw will be doing a water change and scrubbing algae off tank sides this weekend

Welcome to the hobby, by the looks of it, things are just getting started, no? Before you start adding a bunch of fish, I would slow down, take a step back and relax. There's a phrase in this hobby, "nothing good happens fast", so you need to be patient and implement some good practices and observe. Okay, now that my little speech is out of the way, give us some details about the tank, size, equipment, flow, parameters, etc..... Do you have a quarantine tank set up? Are you planning on adding more rock? What chemicals did you add?

For a tank that size, I'd only be adding one fish at a time, and adding a month apart. Your system needs time to adjust to the additional bioload. Assuming you used something like biospira or another bacteria in a bottle. A larger tank can absorb a bit more of an increase in bioload but even then, most only add 3-5 fish at a time. Adding 3 at once for your small tank is way too much/fast. Add 1. Wait. Also, what do you have for flow? Flow helps with the cyano. You might also benefit from a couple more rocks which will create more crevices/hiding spots for your fish like the royal gramma and cardinal. Also, more rocks adds to your filtration. Def. share your tank infor. like size and equip. (skimmer? Power heads?, etc). Assuming you don't have a QT tank. Adding 1 at a time you can observe and make sure new guy is eating. Adding more rock will give them places to hide and feel safe.

To answer your question, the cyano will not be a problem for the goby or any other fish. But as others have said, go slow.

^^^what he said. :) Also it is better to add livestock from least to most aggressive to a tank. Welcome to the hobby and enjoy.

I'll add to this phrase "Except tragedy".

Going fast willed to more issues and eventually us seeing another for sale thread with all of your equipment listed because there are a bunch of issues that you're not sure how to fix them and just give up. Please dont take this this the wrong way.

You are taking the right steps with asking for help when you need it. Please listen to the other posters when they say slow down and take it easy.

Continue to ask questions and give the most information about your setup so we can help you properly.

I love seeing small tanks setup so I dont want your tank to crash and see you give up.

To answer your question the cyano will not have an impact on adding the goby but cyano says you some have enough water circulation possibly and you have nutrient build up that you need to address first.
