I know ORP readings are strange and the consensus is that if you do not have a crazy jump then just monitor but mine is climbing daily. Since I put in my APEX my ORP has steadily climbed an initial reading of around 190 to a week later being 380. It seems to dip down a few points in the middle of the day but overall it is a steady climb. Is this normal? The only thing that has happened is I had a fight with dinoflagellates and I am currently winning it.

A new ORP probe takes some time to settle in. Mine now fluctuates daily between 350-380. After a large water change I’ve seen it go up to 400-450. If something dies in my tank it can drop down to about 300.

Kind of what I thought. I have read they take a while to settle down, that seems really odd though, why would a probe need to acclimate? It is not a fish.

The probe is stored with a solution that is about a pH of 4. Give pH and ORP probes a week or two if they are new after placing in the tank.

Both of mine do the exact opposite - after a WC the ORP drops significantly and then gradually climbs back up. At my last 10% WC of my more established tank (29 Aug) it dropped from 260 to 225 and has now climbed back to 244. This behaviour may vary depending on the salt you use - I use Aquaforest Reef Salt. During each day it will vary about 8 points - high point being around 09:30 in the morning.
