I always wonder what kind of clean up crew you guys have in your acro grow out tanks. And why you have that clean up crew?

Like in frag tanks? Typical snails( turbo, cerith for detritus, Astrea, trochus). I try to ensure a variety to cover multiple algae types. I have an urchin, and pest eating fish(wrasses), and algae eating fish like tangs. No sand for nassarius snails. Hermits kill the snails.

Might state which urchin, I know long spine urchins you run the possibility of eating through the middle of an acro :grinning-face-with-sweat:

But im with brad here, just a variety of algae eaters. I'm all for naturally controlling algae/pests to the best of my/tanks abilities.

I have used pincushion urchins but they suck in frag tanks because they pickup everything.

tons of snails, plenty of urchins, also emerald crabs and grazing fish seem to do a good job at keeping things in order

Never had issues with a tuxedo urchin bothering my coral!

Thank you all, urchins seems to be clean up guys i didn't thinks off, and yes I was thinking of those growout tanks at the time of posting this thread.

Also no one mention hermits?!
I got hermits, emeralds and snails. Snails for cleaning the frag plug so they encrust. I also put a few hermits on plugs if there's a bit of hair algae on them.

I didn't used to keep urchins but now have pincushions. I've found them to be awesome at cleaning rocks

YEP! My tuxedo just likes to pick up my tiny collenista snails and wear them. But never messes with my corals. WELL, one time I do think he might have been trying to pick up a mushroom and wear it, but the mushroom won that battle!
