Crabs/Shrimp are scavengers and can detect when something isn't doing well.

How bad is the clam ?

if you found the clam empty... it died on its own. the shrimp and crabs only go for it when they are done.

Dont throw the shell out... boil it, get all the crap out and leave it in tank, its good to glue frags to.

yeah its happened to me... the clam died and shriveled on its own... crabs and shrimp do come to clean up but after its already super weak or dead
