I was looking to build a custom wooden stand for my upcoming 55 gallon tank build. I was going to use the template by @RocketEngineer but have some questions about it. Is the stand just supposed to sit on the corners + centerbrace or does it sit on the 2x6’s? And are the green boards supposed to touch the floor or hover just above it?

Looks like a very typical stand build. The green ones are there to assemble the purple ones, they are basically a tie helping to keep top, bottom and uprights together and square. The green ones can go from top to bottom if you wish. The cross brace is to help prevent lateral movement. If its a glass tank as long as the top is level and square you'll be good. If its acrylic you'll want to add a sheet of 3/4" plywood to the top. Plywood will also aid in the structural integrity of the entire build.

For what its worth I built a stand for 2 125s stacked and a stand for 8- 10g tanks basically the same way. Oh forgot the stand for my 85g cube tank also.

Here is the picture most folks remember. The base design uses 2X4 for everything but the red/yellow pieces. The red ones get sized based on tank size and footprint. The green ones are screw strips for simple assembly.

A 55 gallon rimmed tank (I’m assuming this is what you have) bears entirely on the corners. Make sure the tank has full contact at each corner, using shims as needed.

The center brace and sides hold it all together so it doesn’t tip over.

Thanks! I haven’t explored many reefing forums besides here, I’ll have to check this out!

No problem. It is a lengthy read for sure but archived for a reason and referenced often :) I like going to the source is all. Similar to Bean Animal's overflow.

Hope all is well and have a greaty day!

Yeah, for some reason, that design is quite popular. Strange.
