Hello everyone

I need to reseal my aquarium. And I have a local store offering to do it for 75-100, but he says that he does not need to remove the overflow box to reseal. The box goes all the way from the top to the bottom. The only reason I don't do this myself is because of the PITA of removing silicon. Plus reattaching the overflow box. I'm not sure if my hands could fit inside of the box to seal the inside. Does anyone have any advice or tips that would help if I decide to do it myself? What about the guy saying not to remove the overflow box? M

You don't need a bead on the inside. And if you're good, you don't even need a bead on the outside!

But to answer your question, you don't need to remove the overflow completely, just from the bottom panel.

Isn't the overflow box all one piece? I think mine is if they usually aren't. So do I just remove the silicon on the very bottom of the overflow and leave the rest? I'm confused obviously. :)

Yes. It has black silicon too. How would I get to the seal behind the overflow on the bottom of the tank?

Are you sure there's a seal behind the overflow at the bottom.?

One thing to think about is removing the trim so you don't ruin it.

There is a line of silicon running along the glass behind the overflow.

Just use a blade at that part and go in from the outside of the tank.

It looks like they sealed the aquarium then let it cure. Then they sealed the overflow with black silicon over the clear silicon.

Personally I would reseal the whole thing. You only need to reseal the front side of the Overflow since it is not a hydrostatic pressure bearing wall. Butt the whole bottom and all four corners of the tank need to be scrape down and resealed.
