A number of years ago I had a Raccoon Butterfly in an SPS tank (mainly Acros). It didn't bother my SPS but picked at some LPS. I'm starting up an SPS only reef and I'm thinking about getting another Raccoon Butterfly but I'm not sure if the avoidance of SPS is pretty common for Raccoons or if I just got lucky last time. Please share your direct experience with Raccoon Butterflys with SPS corals.

Raccoons will eat lps/softies for sure and is always a gamble with sps.

Had 9 or 10 of these grow out troughs, always used a fox face and raccoon for nuisance control, as they are hardier than CBBs. Corals did fine, lol. I've also used false falcula butterflies (C. ulietensis) in sps and mixed reefs for aiptasia control, and are also a good choice if no meaty LPS.

As above- I have kept Raccoons with SPS and had no issues, I found then great for cleaning up small aiptsia and hydroids. Also have you considered a Burgess' butterflyfish (Chaetodon burgessi) I found them safe with SPS and LPS.
