Radion Experts Please Help w/ Upgrade Question

So what would the difference be between a gen 1 radion upgraded to a gen 3 pro vs a new gen 3 pro?

I don't own a radion but plan on buying one for a 93 cube I'm setting up. I have a friend selling a gen 1. I could buy it, the upgrade, and reef link and be at the cost of a new gen 3. Just wondering what the pros and cons are.

Just the Frame LEDs and the fan and the board gets the upgrade.

I would buy the used gear and upgrade it. I upgraded my Gen1 to gen 2 pro and also bought a gen2 pro - I saw no major difference other then cosmetic, the guts are essentially the same.

That would be my guess.

They do the upgrades in two ways. The best way is too pAy for new ones to be sent to you and pay for them. Return yours and they refund all but the 150 for the upgrade. That way you get all new everything and a new warranty. The new pros are a lot stronger the gen2 pros are more than enough for all but the sps nuts.

Doing a search I came across this thread.

I am in the same spot, looking at buying gen 1 radion. I keep reading about the exchange, but if it is over how does one upgrade the gen 1?
