8-9". I have two of them mounted at that height over a 36x18x18 display and I have 100% coverage and great PAR. One fixture should be more than adequate to cover that footprint.

I am using a couple of the standard RMS mounts. They are already set at the recommended height.

So, shall I shorten it by 1 inch from 9" to 8" height for my tank height is only 16", instead of the 24" cube tank used by BRS test?

I am placing the xr15 G5 Pro 9" from top of water surface. Works ok.

If I were you, I would definitely look into Reefi Lab's Uno instead of xr15 G5. I am impressed with it's product spec's, build quality, and cheaper pricing. Anyway, I will replace my xr15 G5 Pro with Uno once I figure out how to mount it on my DIY swivel TV wall mount.
